How To Stop Yo-Yo Dieting

Do you have five or ten pounds that keep disappearing then coming back, then disappearing again? If you do this is called yo-yo dieting and it is not healthy for you.

Yo-yo dieting is when a person eats as few calories as possible for a long period of time. Then after they loose the pounds go back to eating the same as they did before. Sometimes after the eating less period a lot of binging occurs which will cause double the calorie intake. The body will get confused and not know when it is full which causes the eating to increase. Eating suddenly a bunch of junk food can cause the metabolism to slow down. Which means that soon the weight lost will come right back.

Doing this up and down weight gain is also not healthy for the heart. The blood cells and organs are one week pumping out a bunch of insulin, then next has to slow down. Making drastic back and forth changes in weight over again will eventually cause a metabolism shut down. This can also cause some other serious diseases like diabetes.

The best thing to do is do a lifestyle change. That is what they teach on the "Biggest Looser" and "Loosing it With Jillian". There are only a few people on those shows who have not been successful. They were determined to live a healthy lifestyle and stick to it. A lifestyle change is to keep healthy, well balanced foods in your home at all times and making exercise a regular part of your life. Also stop emotional eating. Getting control of your emotions is another key element that will keep your weight more consistent. Emotional eating is the number cause of yo-yo dieting.

How to stop yo-yo dieting?

1. Exercise at least three times a week.
2. Maintain a balanced diet.
3. Don't deprive yourself.
4. Don't eat until you get full. Eat to live, don't live to eat.
